Memberships

The Southern eDNA Society (SeDNAs) offers memberships that not only provide a fun way to stay connected with like-minded colleagues but includes a range of other benefits.

Membership renewals for 2025-2026 are coming up. Keep an eye on your inbox and our social media for more information.

Membership is open to anyone who is interested in helping create a vibrant eDNA community in our region, wants to stay up to date with the latest eDNA news, and would like to access the benefits of being a SeDNAs member, such as:

  • Discounted registration fees for the biannual eDNA conference. The last conference took place in Wellington (NZ), 18 – 21 February, 2025.
  • 20% discount on fees for manuscripts published in the “Environmental DNA” journal and 15% discount – in the “Metabarcoding and Metagenomics” journal (get in touch with us to claim your discount).
  • 10% discount on Article Processing Charge (APC) for manuscripts published in PeerJ’s SeDNAs Hub
  • An easy way to stay up to date with the eDNA community through regular newsletters.
  • Access to job listings, collaboration opportunities, events, and other research news via the SeDNAs website.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the future of the field via working groups and workshops on critical and emerging topics.

As the society matures, more opportunities and benefits will develop for members. Now is a great time to become part of a growing, vibrant society.

We offer two types of membership: standard and student members. The benefits are the same, but students and unwaged researchers receive a discounted price. Annual membership runs from 1st July to 30th June each financial year. The income we receive from membership will be used to organise conferences and workshops, provide awards for students and cover society running costs.

To celebrate the official start of the Southern eDNA society, we offered the option to become a “Founding member”. Founding members gave extra support for getting the Southern eDNA Society off the ground. The Southern eDNA society is grateful for all Founding members, a list of the people that helped kickstart our society can be found here.

To summarise, the annual membership costs are:

  • Standard/Waged membership:                          $AUD 100
  • Student/Unwaged membership:                        $AUD 60

You can become a member by signing up using our membership form via this link.

Members will automatically receive quarterly newsletter and communications about the conference, but you can register to receive website updates as well to stay informed about more recent events.
