If you have conducted (eDNA) research in the Great Barrier Reef in the last 4 years, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority would like to hear from you! Your data could help assess the current state of the GBR and assist in managing the reef in the future. Read on for more information…
The Reef Authority is currently preparing the next Great Barrier Reef Outlook Report. The team are interested in connecting with researchers that may have relevant information to inform the report. Of particular interest is connecting with researchers that may be able to help bolster some data deficient areas with current research.
The Outlook Report is an evidence-based report written by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. As part of this process, the Outlook team are reviewing ‘current’ literature (published between 2019-2023) to update the data chapters. These chapters aim to provide an evidence-based assessment of the condition and trend of values of the Great Barrier Reef (e.g. species, habitats, ecological processes, heritage values, factors that are impacting those values). The 2024 Outlook Report is provided to the Minister for the Environment by 30 June 2024 to table in both houses of Parliament (unchanged). The data cut off for information to be used in the report (and to support grading statements) will be 31 December 2023. The Outlook Report will inform future protection and management of the Reef locally and internationally.
