Special Issue in International Journal of Molecular Sciences: “Unlocking Environmental Genomics and Transcriptomics: Advancements in the Sampling, Processing, and Analysis of eDNA and eRNA”

This announcement for a special eDNA issue from Richard C. Edmunds (Australian Institute of Marine Science) might be of interest to eDNA researchers, please contact Richard directly for information.

Dear Colleagues,

Environmental DNA and RNA (collectively, environmental nucleic acids or eNA) are powerful emerging tools for molecular ecology that have shown great promise over the previous decade for advancing our collective knowledge about the structure, function, and dynamics of aquatic ecosystems; however, the true potential of eNA has yet to be unlocked. As such, this Special Issue titled “Unlocking Environmental Genomics and Transcriptomics: Advancements in the Sampling, Processing, and Analysis of eDNA and eRNA” aims to publish articles and rapid communications including original research, novel methodologies, and in-depth reviews that will improve the sampling, processing, and/or (meta)genomic/(meta)transcriptomic analysis of eNA.

In this Special Issue, original research articles, methodologies, reviews, and rapid communications are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Development of ground-breaking eNA methods (particularly eRNA);
  2. Advancements in the sequencing of eNA (including single-cell sequencing);
  3. Elucidation of the structure, function, and diversity of cell-bound and cell-free eNA;
  4. Monitoring ecosystem health or biodiversity in response to anthropogenic stressors;
  5. Assays for health, stress, infestation, and disease monitoring in aquaculture systems.

IJMS focuses on molecular studies in biology and chemistry, with a strong emphasis on molecular biology and molecular medicine. To be considered for this Special Issue, submitted manuscripts must provide in-depth molecular results and field-advancing conclusions.
